Don’t you just love this gorgeous baby hanging over my fireplace? I cannot get enough of it, I catch myself walking through the living room just to stare! It looks 10x better in real life than in these pictures! For some reason, the ribbon looks bright red, and the feathers look like the bright green stands out but in real life, they look as if they are just dark green and dark red!

I tied it with a different ribbon to see if it would photograh better but it really didn’t! Lol! I love it with both ribbons!

I wish you could see the richness of these feathers in the pictures that I can see in real life! The deep green is gorgeous!

What I really can’t get over is how easy it was to make, and yet I almost bought the one from Anthropologie for 79 dollars because I thought feathers would be too hard to work with but come to find out, it was the easiest wreath I have ever made!

Gathering Supplies for the DIY Feather Wreath

All in all this wreath only cost me 24 bucks! I mean less than a third of the Anthro one and I have tons of feathers left over to make other Christmas decor with!

Materials Needed for Feather Wreath:

If you LOVE making wreaths as I do check out all these other wreath ideas I have for Christmas and winter! This Christmas Winter Wreath is metal rings and uber classy! This Winter Village Wreath is my upmost favorite front door wreath simply because it is fun and colorful! Add these ice skates to any wreath or swag to have decor that can stay up even after Christmas!

Making the DIY Feather Wreath

This is seriously the EASIEST wreath I have ever made, and yet it may be my absolute favorite wreath I have ever made! The sophistication of the deep green feathers is just unreal!

To get started, just a quick note, I used the sewing pin and not the floral pins because the floral pins were 1.75 inches long and that would poke through if you didn’t get them perfectly centered and keep the ‘legs’ close together! The sewing version is only 1″ long so they are much easier to work with!

Making the Wreath Form Thicker

Grab your supplies, and wrap the foam in the chunky yarn to make the feather wreath fatter! If you want a really thin feather wreath, you can skip this step but I started without adding the yarn and I wasn’t liking the wreath, it looked far too skinny! Once I added the yarn, I felt it was proportioned properly!

Here is the wreath before adding the yarn, just so you can get an idea of the difference!

Once I realized that it was too thin, I just wrapped the wreath form in the chunky yarn, you can really use anything here that you have laying around, I had this yarn left over from when I made this really cute Wooden Deer, and it had gotten some stains while in my closet so why not use it for something where it won’t even be seen! Lol!

To get the wrap started, you can overlap it on itself or you can use a pin! I just overlapped it because I wasn’t sure how many pins I was going to need for the feathers!

I just wrapped the whole wreath form, using a pin every quarter of the wreath pretty much!

Keep wrapping!

Adding the Feathers to the Wreath

Now, this is where my phone ran out of storage and quit recording unannounced to me! LOL! So this was as far as the wrapping went on the wreath on camera, but I kept going and started wrapping feathers and pinning them. This is where I stopped because I ran out of feathers, and then realized the camera hadn’t been recording! UGH!

Since I didn’t record the whole start of the wreath, I will just show you, imagine the wreath form is wrapped in the yarn already in the pic below! This is such an EASY process! The feathers are on a 2 yard strand like so!

I took them and wrapped them around the form to measure, pinch the strand where they meet, and cut it! That EASY!

Keep hold with your right hand so you know where to cut!

Once you have your piece cut, wrap it around the form and then flip the form over. Push the pin into the form making sure to catch both ends of the strand of feathers!

You will never know if they don’t meet on the back, just make sure the pin goes into both ends of the strand!

You legit just continue this process from the starting point (which is anywhere you want) to the very end! Add one on top of that one making sure they overlap well! Knowing now that I had probably three or four extra rows left over, I would move them slightly closer together than I did! It will keep any of the brighter green from showing through!

adding more feathers to the DIY feather wreath

Once you get back around to the starting point, you will gently need to move the row of feathers out of your way so you can put the last row of feathers under the first row!

Check it over to make sure your DIY feather wreath has no bare spots! You will have a foot or two left over that you can use if you have any bare spots!

Add a ribbon to hang it with!

Hang this beautiful baby wherever you want it and ENJOY looking at it!

I LOVE it! I swear in person it is way prettier! I found a different strand of feathers (affiliate link) I may try though just so there isn’t any differentiation in the green color but they are stiffer and so I am not sure if they will lay correctly or stick straight out! Lol! I will update you if I try them and let you all know!

I have been having a good time making my holiday wreaths! Are you making any wreaths this holiday season? Let me know in the comments below and make sure and share photos with me if you make this DIY feather wreath, I always love seeing your projects!
