Boy’s Bathroom Mood Board
Bathroom renovations come with so many options and price ranges it can be hard to narrow down the choices! Mood Boards are a great way to try out different options without spending any money and you can easily narrow down colors and patterns that work well together, or do not! This bathroom mood board is masculine with the navy blue, warm with the wood tones, and all the while allowing the white to bolster a very clean aesthetic!
Don’t mind that I am not a professional when it comes to mood boards! Lol! Even with my amateur mood board skills though, I cannot wait to bring this mood board to life! This bathroom has such a retro theme almost using chrome and navy blue to really elevate the space! It reminds me of the 50’s and my Grandpa! Lol! I love the crisp white and navy blue the way they work together with the warmth of the oak!!
This bathroom will be a full on remodel starting from scratch and doing it on a shoe-string budget! When I say budget, I mean, BUDGET!! LOL! I am trying to stay below $3,000 and we are even having to move drain lines! This would cost $3,000 alone if we hired someone to move them!
Want to see what we are starting with? It is a complete gut job to start over!
Above photo is where the shower will be!
Below photo is opposite wall of the shower where the toilet goes! I was testing out paint colors and smoothing the walls, plus I had started laying the tile already! Lol!
I did a horrible job of getting before photos, I know! But, I was too excited to get started with all the demo that this is all I have! The vanity will be on this wall!
Just to be real and honest here, don’t think when I post the bathroom reveal that this was the first that I was planning this bathroom renovation and I completed it in a week or two, I have already been working on it, it is just taking longer than I expected so I figured I would share the bathroom mood board just to show you what I have been working on!

Breaking Down the Bathroom Mood Board
The vanity is one of my favorite parts of the bathroom mood board and renovation! I plan to build the vanity to look just like the one in the mood board! I originally found this on Signature Hardware, but they no longer sell it, I do have to make mine slightly smaller so it won’t look identical, but I plan to also make the plans for this size available to you all as well!
Vanity
I have been working on so many crafty things as I have desperately been waiting on plywood and lumber prices to come down, and I really don’t have any more room in my house to place furniture until I finish the boy’s room and bathroom! So I am so happy to be building some furniture pieces again…even if plywood prices never came down! Lol!
I plan to use a black frame mirror, black vanity light, but chrome for the sink faucet as shown in the bathroom mood board! I know, I know, chrome is not trendy right now, but for me it is not about trendy! I like what I like, and you just watch chrome is coming back! Lol! I love the 50’s retro feel that chrome gives! It is not for every bathroom plan, but it definitely fits with this one!
Shower and Bath
We will build a shower pan and tile the shower, we will build it to standard size shower measurements to keep the shower glass affordable! Even though the space is small, my son loves to soak in the bathtub any time he is sick or sore so we will add a small bathtub as well! And I do mean small, this bathtub is only 54″ at it’s widest!
We were able to find the most inexpensive shower glass that still looks great and offers a completely glass shower surround at Lowe’s! I was shocked at how cheap it was, for the shower door and the fixed glass panel for the end, it was a total of 680! That is insanely cheap considering if I were to have this built custom, it would cost $3000+ just for the glass!
The tile I am using in the shower and behind the tub are from Floor and Decor! I have said this before, and I will say it again, I absolutely LOVE Floor and Decor the most for tile! I am not sponsored in any way, I don’t have an affiliate account with them, I have never been given free product by them, I just LOVE the store, the selection, and most of all…the prices! The lowest prices on any tile I find!
I am using basic white 3×12 subway tile vertically stacked in the shower, a nice light gray penny tile for the shower floor, and antique blue 3×12 subway tile vertically stacked behind the bathtub!
Wall Paint Colors
If you have been here for a while, you may remember when we tore this bathroom apart and I had a different plan of action! The bathroom mood board looked like this!
I absolutely loved this option as it was so serene but I felt it was a little mature for the boys and changed the plan to the navy and white! But I am using evergreen fog in my bathroom now and I could not be more excited about that because it is one of my absolutely favorite colors of paint!
I am using Behr Midnight Blue for the board and batten, and Behr White for the top part of the walls! Then I am breaking the two up with a 12″ row of pole wrap around the room which is my favorite part! Funny as it is, I thought to myself as many times as I have seen people use pole wrap, I’ve never seen them use it like this! And then, low and behold I see one of the first pictures that comes up now when I search pole wrap on walls is a person who placed it above board and batten! Lol!
They are not lying when they say there is nothing new under the sun, no matter how many times I think I have the most creative idea, I usually find someone else has already done it!😅
Let’s look at the bathroom mood board again so we can see the color combo!
Flooring
I plan to use this hexagon tile from Lowe’s on the floor which somehow matched the penny tile in the shower perfectly! I LOVE when that happens, those happy little accidents!
Accessories for the Bathroom
We don’t have any linen closets in this entire house, so of course I have to figure out towel storage! So, I plan to build a linen tower to match the vanity, and hope to add a hamper to the bottom instead of being fully open like the one I placed on the bathroom mood board! I also am going to use a hotel style towel rack above the bathtub to offer more towel storage as well!
The artwork situation is still undecided at the moment, I want something simple as I shared in the bathroom mood board but I am not sure if that is exactly what I want! Lol! And ironically enough, I can’t find the site where I found this artwork! Oy!
I also really want to try growing a fiddle leaf fig in their bathroom, but I am not sure how well it will grow in there! The bathroom does get really good light though so I think it should thrive! We shall see, I am not a plant lady at all and I have the blackest thumb you could imagine! Lol! But I do have the artificial option should I fail! I found this inexpensive fiddle leaf fig on Amazon, and I like her!
I already purchased some towels from Target for the bathroom, they are slightly more turquoise than navy and I love how they coordinate! Plus they were recently 30 percent off so I was able to get the rugs and towels for less than 150 bucks! Remember I am on a BUDGET! Lol!
Well that pretty much sums up my bathroom mood board and plan for the bathroom renovation! I can’t wait for you all to see this come to life and to hopefully stay within budget!😅Let me know what you think of the plans in the comments below!
Happy Renovating!
